At the American Girl Doll Store you’d pay around $35 for a new outfit for your doll. On our auction site people paid over $100 for this outfit. But you can make the top for less than the cost of a Starbucks Grande White Chocolate Mocha. And you can teach your daughter to sew in the process, (if you have a daughter). Making this outfit yourself is an extreme value! Go for it.

Let me just mention one last benefit of buying a Liberty Jane Pattern Guidebook for those of you who are moms - Your daughter is in love with her AG doll, right? And she’s in love with Liberty Jane Clothing, why not use that excitement to teach her a valuable skill – sewing. It’s a skill she’ll use her entire life. The bonding and special one-on-one teaching time with your daughter will be invaluable. This is the perfect project to make it a reality. She’ll be excited to learn, and thank you for showing her something new.

My favorite Liberty Jane pattern in the U.K Holiday Top. It is incredibly easy to make, it doesn’t require much skill, and the outcome of the top is adorable on my American Girl dolls! Thank you Liberty Jane for making this pattern. My dolls LOVE it
It also is very cute if you make it with a sheer fabric and then put it over a tank or strappy tank top!

how did you make the hair red? thats so cool!
Is it possible to crop the shirt shorter so that it reaches to the waist of the doll and then have it banded at the bottom hem?
Sure, just cut off the portion that would be below the elastic. Attach a band that measures about 1/2″ bigger than the hip measurement 9to allow for seam allowance). You could either just use a stretchy knit or use elastic inside of the band. Let me know how it turns out. I’d love to see a picture!

oh,and does this pattern teach how to make the belt as well?
No there isn’t a pattern for the belt, but it’s super easy… This one is a piece of trim that feels like leather, it’s folded in thirds and sewn around all four edges. It’s 16 inches in length to begin with. Sew one end with a point and trim around the point stitching. The other end is just wraped around a slide buckle and secured with an eyelet.
Where can I find buckles the right size?
The buckle pictured above was bought at JoAnn’s , I found it in with the buttons. You can also find similar slide style buckles at Lucysfabrics.com
